I don't think Prince (before he was the artist formerly known as) meant for this to happen. As his drug and debauched creative state reached orgasm, and the funk, camp, groovy classic that is Purple Rain was given birth to, was it there, in the back of his mind, that many years later, this tune would be co-opted into the world of bookstore muzak.

This to me is truly proof that we live in a crazy, fucked up world. Prince being piped over the speakers of a Perth bookstore as it's multi-ethnic, but distinctly middle-class clientele, browse everything from cat calendars to cartography, dianetics to diet guides.

I could only bow my head and offer a silent apology to this truly sacreligious moment.
